I’m often in conversation with people who are blown away by DeepSeek. I feel like we are too quick to pretend that there is a “normal” in generative AI. It is new. We have not sorted out all the best ways of doing things. Everything is a prototype. And when we see things like Mercury using diffusion on text, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise. There are other approaches to AI that will probably challenge the “GPT status quo”. The astronomical cost for training GPTs is driving research into all sorts of ways of doing things differently. #IntentionallyVague
